Fake news is being spread by anti-maskers against wearing masks that they are ineffective and are against our inalienable rights. Indeed, a recent study conducted by Essential Research found that a quarter of all Australians think it infringes on their personal liberty. Wearing masks does not infringe on our freedoms any more so than other social responsibilities such as wearing a seatbelt or stopping at traffic lights. We do these things because they are the right thing to do. At most, wearing a mask is a minor inconvenience despite what conspiracy theorists and trolls think. And anyone who says otherwise needs to grow up. We cannot be led astray by selfish, childlike behaviour. Wearing masks protects others and as such is a social responsibility. Just as you and I cannot drive through a red light whenever we feel like it, so we must also wear masks because it helps to take care of our loved ones and other people in our cherished community. Therefore, it is reasonable to have a mask mandate during the COVID pandemic.
